This traditional Swedish recipe for red cabbage and apples is often served during the holidays. It is seasoned with brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, cloves and allspice. Be sure to serve it warm.

Ingredients
1/4cupbutter
4green apples, peeled and chopped
1large onion, cut in half lengthwise, then sliced
2poundsred cabbage, shredded (weight is approximate)
1/4cuplight brown sugar
2tablespoonscider vinegar
1teaspoonsalt
1/4teaspoonground cloves
1/4teaspoonground allspice
1/3cupapple juice
2tablespoonslingonberry jam or current jam
Instructions
Melt butter in a heavy, large Dutch oven over medium high heat. Add apples and onion and saute until tender, about 10 minutes.
Add in cabbage and stir frequently for about 8 minutes.
Stir in sugar, vinegar, salt, cloves, and allspice. Cover and cook until cabbage is crisp-tender about 10 minutes more.
Uncover and add apple juice and lingonberry jam. Bring back to a slow simmer and cook 5 minutes more. Taste and adjust seasonings.
