Yesterday I bought a bag of frozen roll dough for a project. As a matter of fact for this very recipe, Elegant and Easy Dinner Rolls and a couple of other recipes, too. I had not planned on doing this post quite yet, BUT the dough thawed before I could get home. I found myself faced with the dilemma of what to do with a 60 count bag of Rhodes not-frozen roll dough. The clock was ticking and I had a more important project that was also in progress, making sherbet for my niece’s bridal shower (her favorite?…that tangy pucker-up lemon sherbet! However, I am making the strawberry and mango sherbets as well, yum!).
Honey Buns and I decided to head for the drive-through of our favorite little Mexican fast food joint so that I could make good use of my time without having to cook dinner. All worked out well. We ate dinner, the sherbet bases got made and I chiseled out some fridge room to chill them prior to processing, and I finished the rolls, too…a lot of rolls.
These dinner rolls look difficult, but they are really very easy. Whatever recipe Rhodes is now using to make their dough is delicious. The only hard part about these rolls is waiting for the dough to thaw so that you can use it. That didn’t seem to be a problem for me in the least. All I had to do was to drive around on a hot summer day with the bag of roll dough in the back of the car and heck, they were thawed in no time at all. No time at all.
Note: If you would prefer to make your own rolls, try this recipe for My “Sunday Best” Dinner Rolls.
Elegant and Easy Dinner Rolls
- 1 bag of your favorite frozen roll dough (Like I said, I used Rhodes brand)
- 1 cube melted butter (1/2 cup)
- Johnny’s Salad Elegance (you can use whatever type of salad seasoning is available in your grocery store)
Thaw the frozen dough according to package instructions. After the dough has thawed, shape into a bow knot (instructions follow). Place on a baking pan that has been sprayed with cooking spray or lightly buttered. Give the tops of the rolls a quick spray with cooking spray. Cover the rolls with plastic wrap and allow to rise in a warm place until double in size. The cooking spray that you sprayed on tops of the rolls will prevent the plastic wrap from sticking to them. You could also butter the tops of the rolls instead of using the cooking spray, your call.
After the rolls have risen, melt the cube of butter. I melted mine in the microwave in a microwave safe bowl. Gently brush the tops of the rolls with the melted butter. Sprinkle Johnny’s salad seasoning over the rolls. Bake in a 350 degree oven until golden brown.
Allow to cool a little before handling. Place in a serving basket and ring the dinner bell.
These are so good, they don’t even need butter. They are very light and airy and full of flavor.

Oh thanks, Jenny, for the photography compliment. I don’t have a clue about what I am doing, BUT I have a good camera…snicker, snicker.
In all truth, I need to have you give me some photography classes. The next time you are in town, may I please have a personal “how-to” session with you?
