Sourdough and More Sourdough

Sourdough Bread

My brother in-law, Dave, is responsible for the fact that my ENTIRE kitchen is bathed in a fine layer of flour and has the unmistakable odor of something fermenting. You see, Dave has gotten into making sourdough bread recently, which just happened to coincide with plans that I had been making to get back into sourdough starters and bread making. Dave’s enthusiasm and success gave me the extra push I needed to plunge myself wholeheartedly back into an old favorite hobby. Continue Reading

Date and Apple Honey Bran Muffins

Whether for breakfast or snacking, Date and Apple Honey Bran Muffins answer the question, “What do I want to eat?”. They are full of good tasting and good-for-you ingredients like Medjool dates, apples, honey, toasted pecans and wheat bran.

Date and Apple Honey Bran Muffins | That's Some Good Cookin' When bran muffins first became all the rage as a weapon against cardio-vascular disease, they left a lot to be desired. Sour Cream Cinnamon Banana Bread

Sour Cream Cinnamon Banana Bread

Often when I eat a banana I remember a trip that my sister and I took to Thailand when we were young. I was 20 and my sister was 16…and our parents told us that we really needed to see Bangkok. My parents were living in Saudi Arabia at the time, where my father was working as a Civil Engineer. Traveling throughout the world was a common practice among the families of ex-pats in Saudi, so sending two young girls/women alone to Bangkok seemed like a perfectly normal thing to do.Continue Reading

Navajo Tacos

Navajo Taco

Navajo tacos bring back good college days memories for me. They filled me up after a day of skiing and got me through finals more than once.

I remember the first time that I encountered a Navajo taco was at BYU’s “Cougar Eat”. Dinner plate-sized Indian fry bread was covered with chili, then piled high with lettuce, tomatoes, cheese and a dollop of sour cream. Sometimes, I would split a Navajo taco with a roommate, but more often than not I would eat the whole thing all by myself. (Oink, oink!)Continue Reading
